First, let me start off by confessing that I did see the movie first. I saw the movie years ago when it first came out and loved it. It is still one of my favorites. I guess the real question is, what took me so long to read the book? I can't answer that, except to say that the book is very different from the movie. (I hate to say it, but I did like the movie better.) When I saw that Hoffman released a prequel of sorts to this novel, I decided it was time to read this one. It is still the story of sisters. Both wanting more than just being an Owens woman and the burdens that carries. One sister will run away, the other will marry and try to be someone different. In the end, the sisters will come back to each other. They will fight, they will love, they will learn...together. The writing is eloquent, if a bit spare. The story left me wanting more, and I can't explain why. The prequel, The Rules of Magic came out on October 10, 2017 and tells the story of the aunts. I definitely need to read this one sooner, rather than later.
