Making Rounds With Oscar

the Extraordinary Gift of An Ordinary Cat

An interesting story ostensibly about a cat with special abilities. Is he psychic? Can he detect chemical odors that signal imminent death? Is the cat the angel of death in disguise. None of these questions are pursued or answered. The book really is about humans with dementia severe enough to require they be institutionalized; and about their significant others; and about how the presence of a cat, or other animal, can be an influence for calm, reassurance, acceptance, and even love. The entire book could probably have been reduced to a single page, certainly a short (3-5 page) essay.
