This book was just plain boring. The first third of the book is mostly about the hard work necessary to run a plantation in Ceylon. I don't care how tea was dried and rubber collected. Then there were too many pages wasted on the dubious character of the twins' mother when it was established in the very beginning she was only interested in money, a title and gambling. Most of the characters in the book are not even likeable.
