Add a CommentIf you are considering reading this series, you definitely should. It's not fine literature, but these books are very entertaining. They can be a little unrealistic, (eyeshadow in 7th grade. What the heck?), but they are funny and sweet. I would definitely reccomend these for girls ages 10 and up. This is a great series.
I am an equestrian myself, so I understand most of the horse things they talk about ;) I love this series and I have read it over and over again. I find myself relating a lot to Sasha. A horse that I regularly used for lessons reminds me so much of Charm.
Loved this book!
I like these books. The writing is OK, they are a good escapism read, but not necessarily fine literature. There is makeup, catty girls, and boy drama. so I wouldn't really recommend these for young kids, but after that, I think it's a fun series.
This is a pretty good book. The plot and writing are done reasonably well, although the storyline is mostly drama. The one thing that bothers me about this book is that the girls are all kind of stereotypical. There's a lot of lip gloss and cat fights. But other than that, its a pretty short, enjoyable read.
A very nice book. Dork Diaries really knows how to suggest good books such as this one.
Okay, time for an adult perspective. When my DD, aged 11, brought this book home from the school library I looked for literary reviews because the series was unfamiliar to me. (I work at a library) No literary reviews=concern on my part. Also, lots of breathless, ALL CAPS!!! reviews did not make me feel any better. So my daughter and I are reading the books together. We are on number 4. The reviewers are correct that this series is all drama all of the time. Lots of fights between girls, misunderstandings blown out of proportion from lack of effective communication, a handful of mean girls and on and off boyfriends . Plus lots of good parts where the scene is the stable and girls are working with their horses to learn skills and develop their riding abilities and styles. I could use way less DRAMA and more horses. And my DD agrees, but cliff hanging endings make her want to read more. I'll go along with her until there is kissing and them we are done. There are better books out there.
It makes me feel closer to the book, horses, and school.
First book in the series
kinda good book. not really worth the read though. I feel bad that the author can't ride horses anymore, but her book aren't all that great. first books usually aren't all that great.
