Hugely popular when it was first published in 1903 and admired by authors from Jack London to Mark Twain, this delightful novel introduced a heroine as irrepressible and fun-loving as Tom Sawyer, who would serve as a role model for a century of American girls and women. When ten-year-old Rebecca Randall comes to live with flinty aunt Miranda and her sentimental sister Jane in a small town in Maine, they expect to turn her into a proper young lady. Instead, Rebecca will end up changing them. Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm is as charming today as it was one hundred years ago and is unexpectedly poignant in its evocation of an America contemplating the choices open to women facing their futures in a new era.

If you've read Anne of Green gables, then you've probably noticed a lot of similarities. Surprisingly, Rebecca was out before Anne. I like this book quite a lot, except for the fact that they make Emma Jane out to be a very uninteresting person, which I don't think is fair.

"Rebecca is an average 10 year old but in a way, is very interesting for example, once she got a man to buy 1000 cakes of soap!" Review submitted by Avonlea Gallant for the Minecraft Book Review Raffle.

Ten year old Rebecca Rowena Randall is a feisty, talkative ten year old who is sent to live with her two aunts in Riverboro. Rebecca is definitely more than her aunts had bargained for, however her lovable and enthusiastic character soon wins them and the whole town over.
