Swedish detective thriller Modus follows psychologist and ex-FBI profiler Inger Johanne Vik as she finds herself and her autistic daughter drawn into an investigation surrounding a series of disturbing and brutal deaths. I certainly wanted to see this series to the end, but the episodes have a lot more violence than I usually expect from PBS. Kristi & Abby Tabby

At first it’s a bit confusing sorting out the characters and yes there are some holes in the storyline, but it is atmospheric, well acted and kept us watching.

A few holes in the story plus comic charm of Swedes trying to sound like West Virginians at FBI HQ but so beautifully filmed that all is forgiven. No doubt makes Sweden today look much better than it does post-invasion. Perhaps not surprising in the circs that Swedes have perfected their ability to portray terrifying physical violence. Not a series for those who might be uncomfortable with open expressions of gay affection and sexuality rarely seen in real life anywhere, mercifully. Nor is this a series that would assist would-be parents in child minding.

All in all, an excellent armchair view of wonderful old Swedish architecture and wintry coastal geography.
