Wind In His Hair (in Lakota; subtitled): "Dances With Wolves! I am Wind In His Hair. Do you see that I am your friend? Can you see that you will always be my friend?"
John Dunbar (voiceover): "I had never really known who John Dunbar was. Perhaps because the name itself had no meaning. But as I heard my Sioux name being called over and over, I knew for the first time who I really was."
John Dunbar: How come we haven't seen any buffalo?
Timmons: Can't figure the stinking buffalo. Sometimes you don't see them for days, and sometimes they're out there as thick as curls on a whore.
John Dunbar: What about Indians?
Timmons: Indians? Goddamn Indians you'd just assume not see, unless the bastards are dead. They're nothing but thieves and beggars

Watch FNX programs to get a less distorted perspective contemporary.
1990 PG 13. A beautiful story about the plains Indians during the 1870's. K. Costner's masterpiece everyone should watch. The music sound track is extraordinary and the majestic cinematography is outstanding.
the cinematography alone is worth the price of admission, the rest is Hollywood, but with Homeric intentions, not unimpressively, surprisingly, achieved, Mary McDonnell is stunning
Awesome movie! Must watch!
Kevin Costner's Masterpiece! Untouchables comes second,in my opinion.
VERY GOOD 1990 multi award winning film. Kind of long - I watched it in two sittings - glad I did.
Remember how this won best picture over "Goodfellas?" Man, the 90s were wild!
Kevin Costner you deserve Five Stars for "Dancing With The Wolves". You and your cast don't overplay the part of the settlers coming West. You keep it to an honest portrayal of both the Indians and the Settlers. In time more movie fans will look upon "Dancing With The Wolves" as a masterpiece of film making!
During Kostner's "I'm a star, and I can do what I want" phase, but still has a lot of good stuff in it.
Dances with the Wolves is a wonderful story with Kevin Costner in the lead. If your like me and you enjoy stories of the American Frontier and our relationship with the Indian Tribes, then this is for you. I thought it an honest portrayal of the Indians and the pioneers moving into the Western parts of America. This movie has got it all, a good cast, top screenplay and great photography. One of the best Westerns I have ever seen!
