In a Virginia penitentiary, Alex Cross and his partner, John Sampson, witness the execution of a killer they helped convict. Hours later, they are called to the scene of a copycat crime. A note signed "M" rests on the corpse. "You messed up big time, Dr. Cross." Alex soon realizes he may have much to answer for, as "M" lures the detective out of the capital to the sites of multiple homicides, all marked with distressingly familiar details - details that conjure up decades-old cases.

I look forward to the next installment of the Alex Cross series, as they are the only ones Patterson is writing himself these days. I enjoyed this one very much - I was positive I had figured out "who done it", but was totally wrong. Keeps you guessing, and it's also a pretty fast read. Looking forward to what "M" does next.

I've been an avid fan of the Alex Cross series, but they are definitely going downhill, again. This book wasn't horrible, but it feels like they are trying too hard to try to keep the storyline going, and it's not working. The book was so slow and it took me forever to read. I expect so much more from Patterson, which makes me wonder if he is actually the one who wrote this book, or if he had an assistant write it and just slapped his name on it.

I love the Alex Cross character BUT this last novel has me questioning the author's plot lines. After having his entire family kidnapped before, wouldn't Alex be more savvy with his kids and their relationships with others? Wouldn't his kids be more wary?? Ali gets into a van of a stranger?? Come on! And how about getting his house bugged and broken into AGAIN?? How bad of a detective is he on the home front? If he's such a genius, then how does this keep happening? Come on, write the character as he should be written. This plot was also tired and already done. Another villain who is jealous of Cross and his abilities and has to prove he's better.

True Patterson style. What bothered me were the time jumps to the past, then back. Good twists, some red herrings. So many characters to keep track of.

James Patterson's latest Alex Cross book, CRISS CROSS, is a great read. Cross' past catches up with him via another super villain who gets inside Cross' head and attacks his family as well. Lost of twists and turns and plenty of action throughout. In the end he captures the bad guy, and then the bad guy makes a getaway from the hospital where he was being treated for wounds received while be arrested. No doubt this sets the stage for yet another run-in (and book) between the two. There is no evidence that Patterson is working with a co-author on the Cross series except for two of the 26 books in the series, and those were sometime back. Hope he keeps it that way.
