The Corners of the Globe --- by --- Robert Goddard. If anyone has ever told you not to begin reading a novel in the middle of the book you should believe them. You should also believe them when they tell you not to begin a trilogy half way through. Maybe that’s why I never figured out what was going on until well into the story. Maybe that was why I found the cast of characters confusing. Certainly that is why the “ending” in this was so dissatisfying. It wasn’t an ending at all. Set in the immediate post WW I period in Scotland, England and France this is a story of skullduggery and deceit. It is a story of covert activity and deceit, of flight and surveillance, escape and deception. Every time you think you know what`s going on, you don`t. Every time you think you know who are the bad guys, you don`t. The plots turns on itself so much that it is impossible to tell where the plot will be too pages from now. And still I would read it again --- but only if I`d read the first installment first. That way at least there wouldn`t be these seemingly ``new`` characters popping up in the middle of the book. IMPORTANT PS: Don't even THINK of reading this book before you've read "The Ways of the World". --- it makes everything fall into place. Without it reading this book is like walking into a movie half way through.

All the skulduggery continues in part 2 of the trilogy as max gets deeper into his father's past exploits. Very well done. Now I have to wait for part 3 and the question of who will be alive at the end to tell the tale,
