What a joy Kerry Greenwood books are. Since she began writing the Corinna Chapman mysteries I have been waiting for each new one to appear. In frustrtion waiting for the new one in 2018 I have started rereading the earlier ones.
Why so loved? She manages to raise such important social and moral issues in her writing, but with the lightest possible touches. In these books you can just see her at work with her other hat on, that of a legal aid (free) lawyer. She draws heavily on the charactrs she meets the stories she hears, the sadness, the tragedy, the worst and the best that people can be toward one another.
I have become so attached to the leading characters in this series that I have trouble remembering that they are not real people. What I love most is the essential goodness of these main characters, balancing out the few bad ones. I also admire the way she tries to give some of the bad ones redemption, but not al,l because that is real life - some bad people remain bad. The under belly of life in a city is not pretty, but our Corinne and gorgeous lover seek to help to make it less ugly by their kindness.
If you want to feel better, cheer yourself up and want a really good read for this Christmas holiday period, none better could be recommended
Another fun read. Here are some things you may not know:
Doona - a duvet, senna - a plant and laxative, howdah - that big carrier that goes on top of an elephant, mezes - appetizers, ilex - holly, rocket - arugula, lollies - hard candy, mudra - those yoga finger/hand positions like OK sign, datura - poisonous weed like loco weed in SW.
