Jon Klassen is one of my and my nephew's favorite authors, and I Want My Hat Back is no exception. Klassen's distinctive illustrations make it visually appealing for both adults and children and the animal characters are distinctive and…

The story was cute, fun to read aloud ... UNTIL an accusation, then a violent act suggested by drawing and word, and finally the bear lying about how he got his hat back. This story is so wrong on every level ... it teaches a child parents…

I love Klassen books, his ending are real. There are consequences if you do the wrong thing and it’s not always a learning experience or a slap on the wrist. My kids love his books. I love the lessons they teach and discussion it creates.

This book is terrible. A bear looks for its hat and then finds it and takes it back. It implies that the bear ate the animal or fought it. My kid is now afraid of bears and thinks they're going to come in the house.

I'm glad I read the reviews after I finished the book because when I got to the ending, I couldn't believe that I had read what I just read. Wait, what? At first I didn't even understand what had happened, and then when I realized the full…

Klassen brings back capital punishment for theft.
I like this over 'This Is Not My Hat' because I like doing the different animal voices. Both have stories, art and lessons that are great for ages 2 and up, when kids are most klepto.…
I read it with my 13 year old- we like all sorts of books, what can I say!
Now we found it funny, but I would NOT read it to her if she were a pre-schooler, especially an aggressive one. The comment by bookmobile was bang on; it is…

I also read and recommend This is Not My Hat by the same author. These books will have every kid yelling out the answers before the actual twist is revealed. I could not believe the end! Give it a read – I dare you! (submitted by DS)
I love this award-winning book! [Spoiler] I totally think one character ate the other. (Trying not to give it completely away!) Some people think one character just ran away, but that is sooo not my interpretation. What do you think?

Yes this is controversial but depending on the age of the child whether being read to or reading themselves, it portrays a bear looking for something that was lost or stolen. But the way the dialog was constructed, it opens a way to…

Very fun book, and honestly one of my favorites. While morally dubious, it is still a great piece of entertainment of kids and grown ups. It definitely won't work for everyone, but for those it does will LOVE it.

Wait -- what are we teaching our children, here? That they are too dumb to understand anything but the most boring and repetitious of stories? That stealing, lying, and stupidity are funny? That escalation and revenge are any way to deal…

This is a very unpopular opinion, but I don't like this book. The drawings are nice, and if it were written for adults, that would be just fine. But all I get out of it is if someone steals my hat, particularly a bunny, I can eat them to…

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. As an adult, I can laugh at the less-than-stellar human characteristics the author has given the animals. As a mother reading this to her child, I would discuss various actions and feelings with…

This is a slightly disturbing tale of a bear who tries to find his lost hat, and **SPOILER ALERT** ends up killing and eating (off screen) the rabbit who stole it from him. If you aren't ready to talk about a character in your children's…

Bear, standing upright, interrogates a different animal. Nearly every conversation is alike. No one has seen his hat and bear retorts, "OK. Thank you anyway." before he goes on to the next creature. The whole thing reads like a classic…
