Getting Wolfe out of his brownstone in New York takes some doing. Here Wolfe travels to Montana to help Archie out of a conundrum. Smooth as usual. Recommended.

This book might be the longest novel Stout wrote with the Nero/Archie combination. These two together make a formidable man. Although it could have been condensed by 10 percent, I will not fault Stout, for the prose is as smooth as freshly ironed sheets, and just as comfortable. There is some racialist language, used widely in the 1930s when this was written, that will surprise some people. Recommended. This book might be the longest novel Stout wrote with the Nero/Archie combination. These two together make a formidable man. This is the book that started it all, the first in the Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin team-ups. The characters are not quite so fully formed and the relationship between Nero and Archie is a bit more tentative than it will be in, say, three years. This beginning is the right place to start. Highly recommended. This is the book that started it all, the first in the Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin team-ups. Hired guns of the Old West. The prose is well done, and the story is interesting but not compelling, because the characters, I think, are all off kilter or otherwise inconsistent. I suppose the narrator is darkly humorous, but his internal struggles aren’t that engaging. Still, it’s being made into a movie, so somebody saw something.Hired guns of the Old West. Although the book has a highfalutin title, the words selected for a better vocabulary are useful. These words, however, will not transform your life, I’m sorry to say. Recommended, just don’t get your hopes up.

A necessary answer to the hostility to biology that powers today’s homosex/transgender activist brown shirts. People are rapidly being dehumanized, and this will have dire consequences as the “mad scientist” pile up on this and coming generations. Noirish take on a dystopian near-future. Postmodern in its outlook, so anything goes because there is no such thing as facts or truth, only interpretations. About as bleak as a book can get.

A book that can be read and re-read. All the characters are smart (even the “dumb” ones), and these characters are lively, coming off the page and filling the imagination. Top notch. Four short stories. Good, light entertainment. Look, there’s no great political theater here, so that, in itself, differentiates Stout’s 1950s work from today’s bombastic PC screeds. Just a couple of interesting characters – Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin – solving crime. Recommended.Four short stories. Good, light entertainment. A difficult book, seeing that the left is dedicated to hardcore materialism and the destruction of anything that gets in its way. Indeed, everything must be swept away if it in anyway interferes with the revolution – utopia. Reading the book was like looking into the heart of darkness. It was like walking down an unknown street in a seedy neighborhood at midnight on a moonless night. Most of what these “thinkers” write is nonsense and gobbledygook, and it is amazing that such gibberish spawns such feverish devotion and murderous results. What’s worse, this thinking has largely captured our own academy. Highly recommended.A difficult book, seeing that the left is dedicated to hardcore materialism and the destruction of anything that gets in its way. There is a certain formula that Marvel movies follow – hero, comedic elements, including comedy by the protagonists, slam-bam CGI effects, and an unusual consistency and logic in the absurd world of super heroes. Thor: Ragnorak is typical of this formula and, as such, it works.
